Why It Matters

GeoTools is an open source Java library that provides tools for geospatial data. Starting in version 30.5 and prior to versions 33.6, 34.5, and 33.6, an SQL Injection Vulnerability is present when executing OGC Filters with PostGIS DataStore implementation: `jsonArrayContains` function; Requires PostGIS 12 or greater with a String or JSON field. For PostGIS 12 and greater `jsonArrayContains( , , )` function writes ` ` into generated SQL without escaping. Patches are available in versions 33.6, 34.5, and 33.6. No known workaround is available. To limit scope of SQL Injection the PostGIS connection pool should be configured with limited rights.

Suggested hunting (rule-based inference)

SecOps Signal recommendation (rule-based inference). These steps are hunting hypotheses from the vulnerability class; they do not state or imply that exploitation occurred here or anywhere.

Matched sql-injection (CWE-89); network-unauthenticated (CVSS AV:N, CVSS PR:N, CVSS UI:N)

Exposure

  1. Locate the affected application endpoint and confirm its deployed version.Telemetry: Application access logs · The CWE describes a weakness class, not which local endpoint is affected. · Rule sql-injection
  2. Identify devices reporting this CVE and note which expose the affected service to untrusted networks.Telemetry: DeviceTvmSoftwareVulnerabilities · A network-reachable, no-privilege vector makes internet-facing instances the first exposure question. · Rule network-unauthenticated

Exploitation evidence

  1. Review requests to the affected endpoint for unusual query syntax and response anomalies.Telemetry: Application access logs · Request and error patterns can guide an SQL injection investigation. · Rule sql-injection

Exploitation evidence

  1. Review inbound connections to the affected service from unexpected sources since the advisory date.Telemetry: DeviceNetworkEvents · Hunting hypothesis from the CVSS vector; it does not show that exploitation occurred. · Rule network-unauthenticated

Response

  1. Verify the source-stated fix and test the affected endpoint after deployment.Telemetry: Application change records · The exact application fix must be confirmed locally. · Rule sql-injection
